Due to the need for improved sustainability and the need to ensure our costs don't exceed our revenue over recent years we have:
- reduced the number of hanging baskets around the village by focussing on the village centre locations. This reduces costs and greatly reduces the watering effort of volunteers
- We have replaced the wire hanging basket with plastic baskets with reservoirs which reduces water wastage and watering effort
- Plants for the summer scheme are selected based on drought tolerance, hardiness, benefit to insects and their colour
- added more water butts in 2024 to give us 1600 litres of capacity
- planted all perennial plants in tubs and troughs in 2024 to reduce watering, costs and maintenance effort. Another benefit of this planting is the spring display which is has more colour and height than winter/spring plants such as pansies.
- However we do leave a small place in the tubs and troughs for summer annuals and winter plants .This year we will adding pink Surfina Petunias, green Helichysum and nemesias to ensure we have a splashof colour all summer.
